Alex Kepnes

Vice President

Alex Kepnes is a trusted strategic communications counselor and storyteller with more than two decades of experience helping leading companies navigate complex communications challenges, strengthen their reputations and tell stories that advance their business priorities. His career spans corporate and agency leadership roles across healthcare, energy and technology, giving him a unique perspective on the communications opportunities and pressures facing senior executives and the organizations they lead.

Background

Alex has spent much of his career sitting in the communications leadership seat that many of our clients occupy, so he understands their challenges and knows how to help them.

Prior to joining RunSwitch as Vice President, Alex served as Senior Director of Marketing and Communications at NextEra Energy Resources, a division of NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE), where he led integrated marketing and strategic communications programs supporting the company’s corporate positioning and business priorities.

Alex spent much of his career in healthcare communications, holding leadership positions at two of the nation’s largest healthcare companies. At CVS Health (NYSE: CVS), he served as Executive Director of Corporate Communications and led media relations for Aetna, advising senior leaders and managing proactive storytelling, reputation and issues management. He also led strategic communications supporting the Office of the President, Medical Affairs, provider networks and enterprise mental health initiatives.

Previously, Alex spent more than nine years at Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), primarily as Director of Corporate Communications. There, he counseled and developed thought leadership programs for the CEO, Chief Medical Officer and other senior executives and led communications campaigns around some of the company’s most important healthcare initiatives, including Medicare Advantage, value-based care and population health.

Throughout his corporate career, Alex has secured national, business, policy and trade media coverage and executive profiles and has prepared senior executives for some of the world’s most prominent business, healthcare and policy forums. His work has included engagement with outlets and organizations such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fortune, CNBC, Yahoo! Finance, POLITICO and Axios, as well as the World Economic Forum, Milken Institute, Forbes Healthcare Summit, HIMSS and the New England Journal of Medicine.

Alex also brings significant agency experience to his work with RunSwitch clients. Earlier in his career, he served as a Senior Vice President in FleishmanHillard’s Washington, D.C. office, where he managed communications programs for cybersecurity, technology, network and defense companies. Combined with his corporate leadership experience, Alex’s agency background allows him to approach client challenges from both sides of the relationship.

Alex has spoken on communications strategy and executive positioning at PR News and Microsoft/Ragan events and recently completed an AI Strategy program at Cornell University.

He earned a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from The George Washington University.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife, Beth, and their two sons, Jonathan and Joshua. He is an avid tennis and golf player and a devoted Boston Red Sox fan.
